Efi Markoulaki born in Athens, Greece in 1960.
She took her piano-degree in 1983 at the same time as she finished Pharmaceutics.
She dealt with Drama for four years and then continued her studies in music theory, had flute and piano lessons and attended music seminars.
She has taken her degree in Composition in June 2001 with unanimous “excellent”, being taught by composer Michalis Travlos. After this she took lessons for two years in music analysis with the composer and musicologist Anargyros Deniosos.
She took part in some important seminars for contemporary music in Greece and in Europe with Toshio Hosokawa, Michael Jarrell, Jonathan Harvey, George Apergis, Liza Lim, Enno Poppe etc, (Darmstadt, Germany - July 2002 and 2010, Bartόkseminar in Szombathely, Hungary - July 2003 - as an active member) and attending the Gaudeamus Week 2004 in Amsterdam, Holland and the ISCM World New Music Days 2006 in Stuttgart, Germany and 2009 in Visby-Växjö-Göteborg, Sweden.
Since 1998 she has taken part in concerts of contemporary music (by the Orchestra of Colours twice, by the Hellenic Ensembles “Olympic Trio”, “Trio in Vivo”, “Kelados”, “Hellenic Ensemble of Contemporary Music” etc) and famous soloists like Michalis Kontaxakis-guitar, Theodora Baka-mezzosopran, Dimitris Sigalos-tenor, Otilia Alitei-violin, Panajiotis Archondidis, Elina Boutieri and Katerina Papazoglou-piano, Katrin Zenz-flute, Michael Heupel-cello have played some compositions of her.
Her composition “Cretan Suite” (2016) for cello solo is included in the personal CD of cellist Michael Heupel, “Afierossis” (Germany 6/2017).
In addition she deals with theatre, poetry, radio and cinema, she has organised many art projeckts and some books of her have publieshed, including “Piano–Adventures”, pieces for students for two and four hands.
She is also a member of the Greek Composers Union since 2004.
She lives in Athens, teaching the piano and music theory.
