Short Résumé
I was born in Patras, a city in the South of Greece. I got my Bachelor from the Department of Economics of the University of Patras. I then moved to Athens University of Economics and Business where I earned a Master in Economics. I left Greece in order to continue with my studies abroad. I earned a PhD and a Master in Economics from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. Throughout my years as a PhD student I had been regularly visiting Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. In September 2012, I joined the DG for Economics, Statistics and Research at the Bank of Italy as a research fellow and in December 2013 I secured a permanent position in the same DG as an economist. I was the first foreigner to achieve this in the history of the institution. In the summer of 2017, I visited the Research Department of the Bank of Spain. In September 2018, I moved back to academia and joined the University of Mannheim as a researcher. In September 2023, I joined ZEW's Inequality and Public Policy group (as a researcher, then advanced researcher, and starting in January 2025 as Deputy Head).
