Syllabus
3 credits, 3 hours/week
1. Transformer: Ideal transformer- transformation ratio, no-load and load vector diagrams; actual transformer- equivalent circuit, regulation, short circuit and open circuit tests.
2. Three phase induction motor: Rotating magnetic field, equivalent circuit, vector diagram, torque-speed characteristics, effect of changing rotor resistance and reactance on torque-speed curves, motor torque and developed rotor power, no-load test, blocked rotor test, starting and braking and speed control.
3. Single phase induction motor: Theory of operation, equivalent circuit and starting.
