Plans for the 2025 Reunion are really starting to amp up! Check out the minutes from this past Saturday's meeting for some updates. Highlights include: finalizing a space and dates for the reunion, outlining reunion committees, and digital genealogy book sales.

We also recognized that Saturday meetings are super difficult for many folks to attend. We'll be incorporating weekday zoom meetings in the hopes that more folks might be able to join in the reunion planning and ‘ohana fellowship. We hope to see you on Zoom at our next meeting on May 22nd at 7pm. :)

12 Kepakemapa 2022

Aloha!

Based on the results of our last survey sent in July, it was clear that most ‘ohana members were not yet ready for a large-scale reunion. We decided that the best way to build towards that goal is through first hosting a series of in-person "mini-reunions" for each island. The tour will begin on O‘ahu on October 22, 2022. The tentative date for the Big Island stop is November 12, 2022. An update will be sent when we have confirmation of a specific location and time. We realize that there are many ‘ohana members who reside outside of Hawai‘i, so there will also be a zoom option available as well. We want everyone to join!

‘Ohana members are encouraged to RSVP for the O‘ahu potluck gathering by completing this form.

Mahalo!

Aloha mai e nā ʻohana!

Mahalo to everyone who was able to join us last Saturday for the first general membership meeting of 2021. The meeting minutes can be accessed via this link.

It was so nice to see you folks and to still be able to connect, even if it was just virtually. For everyone who wasn't able to make it, we hope that you will join us for future meetings and activities, such as the online genealogy and gravesite workshops that we have planned for later on in the spring.

E mālama pono!

10 Ianuali 2021

Aloha kākou,

Happy new year! We hope that your first socially-distanced holiday season was still packed with the same aloha, laughter, and relaxation.

Although we had initially hoped that COVID-19 and the practices of social distancing would be a temporary adjustment, we quickly came to the realization that this is indeed our new normal. As such, we made the decision to cancel all in-person meetings and events until further notice, instead opting to use the Zoom online meeting platform to safely gather.

That being said, we invite all family members to join us for our first general membership meeting on January 16, 2021 at 4:00p HST. If you would like to attend, please send an email to safferywebsite@gmail.com so that we can email you the link to join. We hope to see you there!

Mālama pono,

Nāʻehu-Saffery ʻOhana Association

14 Malaki 2020

Aloha kākou,

As we temporarily adjust our lives to COVID-19 and the practices of social distancing, we thought it prudent to cancel our next meeting on Saturday, March 21, 2020.

We have much to learn about COVID-19, and one of the things we do know is that it attacks those who are more vulnerable, such as the elderly and those with compromised immune systems. We hold our kūpuna and their ʻike (knowledge) very dear to us. Out of an abundance of caution, we do not want to inadvertently and unknowingly risk exposing anyone to any kind of possible illness.

At the end of March, we will reassess to determine if we can meet in person for April.

We are all familiar with the phrase: "aloha kekahi i kekahi" (love one another). During this time, let's kōkua kekahi i kekahi (help one another) in the spirit of aloha.

We hope and pray that everyone stays healthy and safe.

Mālama pono,

Nāʻehu-Saffery ʻOhana Association

6 Malaki 2020

Aloha e kuʻu ʻohana,

It is with heavy hearts that the Nāʻehu-Saffery ʻOhana reunion will be postponed to 2021.

The decision to postpone to 2021 is due to the uncertainty of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) and its impending spread globally.  Locally in Honolulu, many scheduled public events and festivals have been cancelled and postponed.

We know this is sad news, but at this time our greatest concern is the safety and health of all of our ʻohana: locally, nationally, and internationally.

We are optimistic that waiting a year will remove uncertainty and limits of COVID-19. The new 2021 reunion date will be shared later when COVID-19's uncertainty is reduced.

Again we are so very sorry for the postponement, and appreciate your understanding and consideration.

Nāʻehu-Saffery ʻOhana Association

JOIN OUR NĀʻEHU-SAFFERY ʻOHANA ASSOCIATION!

Aloha e nā ʻohana,

You are all cordially invited to become a member of the Nāʻehu-Saffery ʻOhana Association!

As most of you know, the Nāʻehu-Saffery ʻOhana Association has a three-pronged approach to our main goal, which is to connect us with our ancestors and with one another via,

1) genealogy resource(s),

2) active stewardship of the grave site of our kūpuna at ʻUlupalakua, Maui, and

3) family reunion(s).

This year, we hope to connect with at least 300 families (and grow our membership by as much) before the end of May 2020.

Please click the following link to access our ʻohana membership form to help us reach that goal: http://bit.ly/ohanamembership20

If you prefer a hard copy of the membership form, please do not hesitate to email us at: safferyarchives@gmail.com
