Welcome to EDD8001

Hello and welcome to the summer semester and EDD 8001 – Instructional Design!
You’ll see that this course is well structured in that each week you will have a weekly web page that describes the content of the course for that week. Think of this as a weekly newsletter that helps you find out what is happening that week (Elluminate sessions, assignments, etc.). In each of these “Weekly lessons” you’ll find narrated presentations, relevant YouTube videos, and interviews with the leaders of our field. Technically the semester and week 1 begin on Monday May 7th but since you have access, it made sense to go ahead and post the week 1 page.
Please login and navigate through your course and review the syllabus. It is imperative that you login the first week by Friday (May 11th) by noon, otherwise you may be dropped from the course.
The first week will be comparatively light, as I know many of you may not have the textbook yet. But when you get the book please go ahead and read chapter 1. When you make it to the week 1 page you’ll also see that you have some supplementary materials you may want to consider.
In this course we will have many chances to interact. There will be several discussion boards over the course of the semester and Elluminate live sessions.
Just a couple of quick notes:
The first “kick off” Elluminate session is Thursday evening May 10th at 6:00 PM – I will be using this session to go over the syllabus and answer any questions you have about course assignments.
There will be several other Elluminate sessions, each of these will be on Thursday evenings at 6:00PM EST
All Elluminate sessions are optional, but if you miss one, please take the time to review the recordings.
You are not required to speak at the Elluminate sessions. But you are encouraged to do so, in order to participate and ask questions. You may also type your questions into the chat interface. If you want to speak up please login early to do an Audio check with the wizard. To do so go to Tools> Audio> Audio Setup Wizard
If you are having technical difficulties you should contact the Office of Information Technologies at: (954) 262-HELP (4357) or Toll Free: (800) 541-NOVA (6682) x24357. If you are having difficulties understanding the course materials do not hesitate to contact me. The best way to get a hold of me is to email me, I try to respond within 24-48 hours.
Well that’s all for now. I hope we have a wonderful semester and hope to talk to you soon!
