Aundair is a nation that needs to change a bit, at least in its tone, from that presented in the setting book in order to fit into the constraints and conceits of the Remixed project. Two necessary changes stand out immediately; the idea to convert the equalitarian conceit of loads of ruling Queens and whatnot mostly back into men as it should be, and the idea that the wizard's university can't really exist quite the same as it is if you have a Lovecraftian magic system that invites monstrous incursions on failures and causes its users to eventually go insane.
For the royal family, I'm going to swap places between Aurala and Aurad. Aurad is the King now and Aurala his sister is an advisor to him as well as chief governor of Fairhaven. Ruling consort Sasik will become Queen Sasik (and a woman) although the ties to House Vadalis remain. Esravash d'Lyrandar will also become a guy.
There not being any legal sorcery per se in all of Khorvaire, Arcanix now has to become a center for "thaumaturgical engineering"; i.e., where magic items are wrought and the techniques for doing so, with regards to dragonshards and other techniques that are relatively tried, true, tested and safe. There aren't any floating towers; this is a regular academy on the ground for this kind of material, and the village that supports it may be a bit bigger than inferred from the printed material. In addition, of course, a fairly brisk trade in dragonshards comes and goes here, naturally, as it is a necessary raw material component for much of what Arcanix is building and teaching others to build.
That said... there is a secret element to this Academy that does teach forbidden spellcasting techniques. And it does exist in a complex of a few floating towers, which are hidden by virtue of being located a bit farther away from the village over protected and heavily guarded land nearby as well as magically conjured mist and clouds that screen them from view. King Aurad knows about this, and is secretly working with this group of highly illegal spellcasters, in spite of the risk that they pose. It is, in fact, a major part of his goals and designs for eventual takeover of the whole of the continent, an ambition that he shares with the Aurala version from Eberron as Printed.
