Shutter screenshot tool
Shutter is a feature rich screenshot tool which has more options than the standard installed screenshot application. With Shutter you can take screenshot of a specific region, an active window, your whole desktop and even from menu's. You can apply different effects, draw on the screenshot to highlight points and more. All screenshots can also be uploaded to various image hosting sites.
How to install Shutter
Shutter can be installed very easy since it's a standard available package in the Mint repository. Just follow the steps below:
To ensure that the terminal commands are not typed wrong, you can also copy the blue text and paste it in the terminal using Ctrl+Shift+V.
Open a terminal
Type the following command:
sudo apt-get install shutter
Type your password
Press Y(es) to accept all proposed packages since those package are dependencies of Shutter
After installation, Shutter can be found under:
Menu > Accessories
The developers of Shutter also made a PPA (Personal Package Archive) available. This PPA can also be used under Linux Mint. To get the PPA in the repositories, follow the steps below:
Open a terminal
Type the following command:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:shutter/ppa
Type your password and press Enter
To install Shutter follow the steps below:
In a terminal type the following command:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install shutter
Press Y(es) to accept all proposed packages since those package are dependencies of Shutter
After installation, Shutter can be found under:
Menu > Accessories
Using the developers PPA gives you the advantage of having the latest release before it appears in the main repository of Linux Mint.Â
