NEW!!! Weekday Toddler Classes and Saturday STE(A)M Classes
Teacher Si (she/her) is originally from Macau, China. She speaks Cantonese, Mandarin, and English. She earned her Associate Degree in Accounting from Bellevue College, then transferred to University of Washington for her Bachelor’s in Early Childhood and Family Studies because of her love for children and her desire to understand their social and emotional behavior through daily interactions.
Si volunteered at the Experimental Education Unit (EEU), an organization focused on children with developmental delays and autism. Si then worked at The Children’s Center at Burke Gilman Gardens (TCC) as a volunteer, as a classroom teacher (with toddlers and preschoolers) and as the program manager. Si gained experience in curriculum planning, classroom management, supporting the individual needs of children, and communicating with parents.
After 14 years of working with children, Si took a year off to be a stay-at-home mom, supporting her daughter's transition to kindergarten and spending quality time with her younger son. She began teaching at Eastgate Co-op in 2024, and we are so delighted she is continuing for the 26-27 school year.
Outside of work, Si cherishes time with her husband, 7-year-old daughter, 4-year-old son, and her dad. Family is the most important aspect of her life. She enjoys activities such as hiking, fruit picking, and traveling with her family.
Janelle has taught parenting classes and led parent support groups for over 30 years, including 13 years for Bellevue College Parent Education. To get a preview of the range of topics Janelle covers in parent education, check out her blog, www.GoodDaysWithKids.com. She also has over ten years experience teaching children from birth to age 9, with a special passion for music and STEM.
Here's how Janelle summarizes her approach to parent education:
We are all trying hard to be the very best parents to our children. Some days we triumph. Other days... not so much. When we have a bad moment, we can forgive ourselves, learn how to do better, and keep moving forward, learning and growing alongside our children.
Janelle has three children, ages 32, 29, and 15. She participated in parent education programs including co-op preschool with all three children and credits those classes with helping her become both the parent she is, and the parent educator that she is.
Janelle has a physical disability (one leg), and has family members that are immigrants, LGBTQ, gifted and neurodiverse, and varying faiths, so inclusivity and appreciation of diversity is a core part of her approach.
Janelle's favorite part about working at ECP is that she gets to interact with both parents and children! And that many families return to her classes again and again, so she has the chance to see children and parents learn and grow through the years.
Alison is new to working in early childhood education - her past careers have included career guidance (which included leading group sessions for school children and frequent interaction with parents), medical administration, and journalist on topics related to parenting. She has also taught Sunday school at her church and volunteers at her children's school.
Alison is the parent of three elementary age children. She reports that with her oldest child she had a strong community of support, but when her twins were born at the start of COVID, they were living in a new country. This taught her how essential it is for parents to have a supportive environment where they can connect, contribute and work collectively, and looks forward to working in our co-op preschool community.
Cymbric taught for the Bellevue College Parent Education program from 2015-2026. She taught at Eastgate Toddlers, Family Inventors' Lab, Discovery Science Lab and Bellevue College's STEM summer camps. In the past, Cymbric worked as an educator at Pacific Science Center for 12 years. She ran the outreach education programs and designed curriculum for Interactive History Company for 18 years, which offered hands-on history programs. She has also taught for Destination Science summer camps and the "Discovery Club" summer reading program at Imagine Children's Museum in Everett.
Cymbric has an adult daughter and a granddaughter.
Her favorite thing about working for our programs is watching both chilren and their parents light up as they discover new ideas, skills, and concepts.
