It got cold at the Kiln tonight, but the games were hot.
For the first time this season, Overnight Oats trailed at halftime. Nauti started the game in a zone defense and got a break. They led 2-0, 3-1, and 5-2. Nauti took half up 8-6. Oats fought hard in the second half and came back to tie the score 8-8. Oats completed the comeback, taking the lead and holding on to win 13-10. Yasu had a fantastic game playing lock-down defense on Nauti's handlers, and making great cuts for scores. Oats DoW all had strong games too.
The late game matched short-handed Purple Hype and REDemption. Purple was able to pick up some players and play Red in a close contest. It looked like Red had an excellent chance to get their first win of the season, but Purple Hype played spoilers and pulled off a 12-11 victory on universe point.
The teams polled to see if there was enough interest to play makeup games on Indigenous People's Day, Monday, October 13, but there were not enough yes votes. Word among local meteorologists is that Monday would have been rained out anyway. So, enjoy the long weekend everyone. Games resume next Thursday, October 16th. Only two nights of regular season games remain. Remember, the last night of regular season, Monday, October 20th, is our Halloween games. Costumes, candy, and shenanigans are anticipated.
Overnight Oats have already clinched the 1 seed in the playoffs, and REDemption have already clinched the 4 seed. Nauti and Purple Hype are tied at 6-6 with Nauti holding the tie breaker based on head-to-head record so far. Since the 2 and 3 seeds will play each other in the opening round of the playoffs, those seeds technically don't matter, but all signs point to that being a very close match-up. Our fall league playoffs are double-elimination. Anything can happen.
