A beautiful Monday night for a change.Â
The early game matched Blue's Clues and a Kate-less Green Beans. There was a nice break by Green in the first half thanks in part to some nice grabs by Carly and good throws by Zay. Your humble commissioner almost caught his first goal of the season, but the pass was deflected by Joe Gertz who made a full-field sprint to catch a bookends score. Curse him! but it was a nice play. Keegan made some big hucks for blue. Green took half 8-7 and received the second half pull, but blue fought back with three straight breaks including a crazy layout score by Marisa. Blue's Clues held on to win 13-10, as green is running out of chances to get a dub before playoffs.
In prime time, bREaD was lightly toasted by White on universe point after hard cap, 10-11 White. There was some great playing by both teams in this game, and it could have gone either way.
The late game featured smooth handler movement by Skippy and Cody from Beets to complement some big deep cuts. Jamonte scored the game's first point, but Black Sheep took half with a 5 point lead. Beets harvested even more effort in the second half, but Black Sheep held on to win 11-8. Shout out to Black Sheep fielding a line with 5 DoW and 2 DoM to close out the game.
All three of tonight's wins completed season sweeps for the winning teams: blue, white, and black each defeated green, red, and purple all three times the teams met during the regular season. With only three regular season game nights remaining, Black Sheep have not yet clinched the 1-seed over White, but White is running out of time to close the gap. White is one game back in the standings, and black also holds the tie-break. Black has already clinched a first round bye in the playoffs. For purple pass white to earn a playoff bye as the 2-seed, three things need to happen:
White would need to lose their remaining three games, including the July 31 game vs purple
Purple needs to win all three of their remaining games.
Purple needs to beat white by at least two points on July 31 to pass white on head-to-head point differential, since a win by purple would tie their season series with white at 2-2, and white currently holds only a one point lead in point differential. All three games between purple and white have been close.
Purple, blue and red are each separated by only one game in the standings. but purple leads their season series against both blue and red in addition to their edge in wins. Whichever team ends up with the 3-seed will face green on the opening night of the playoffs, while the 4- and 5-seeds will play each other.
