11-9 White Lotus over Black Pearl in the early game. Numbers were light overall, but the intensity was high! Lotus went on a four-point run to start the game, and Pearl responded by going on a FIVE-point run. From there it was a narrow game. Lots of miscued throws and drops from both teams, which kept things messy and exciting. Evan almost got a Callahan for Pearl, but Pat snatched it away in time to keep possession for Lotus. Nina was a fearsome force in the endzone for Pearl, but in the end Lotus pushed ahead as hard cap hit.
The prime time started with both Big Disc Energy and Area 51 being low in numbers but high in spirit! The first half had BDE playing a complete game with Barry leading the charge from the handler set. Dean also had some amazing plays for Area 51 including an absurd flick huck to Jared. BDE took half 8-3, but Area 51 wasn’t done yet. Sammy was a scoring machine in the second half for the Aliens catching huck after huck. BDE kept holding though, capped by a great snag from Xander, falling backwards to make a one-handed grab that seemed to be in slow motion, closing the game out a win for BDE 14-8.
The late game started as a slugfest with both teams scoring back and forth. Gertz was the recipient of several end zone hammers after smooth handler motion from shRED. Dr B aught a Callahan for shRED, thrown by a player that we won’t name. Blue Wave was able to clamp down on defense and make the field a little harder to work through. Much like the early game, it was tight and a bit sloppy (which adds to the fun). Blue Wave ended strong, getting a narrow victory over shRED 13-11.
With four regular season game nights remaining before playoffs, shRED and White Lotus are tied atop the standings at 8-5. shRED has the tiebreak with a 2-0 record vs Lotus so far. Only one game behind them, Black Pearl and Blue Wave are tied at 7-6. Pearl holds the tietreak with a 2-1 record vs Blue Wave so far. BDE is at 5-8 and Area 51 is at 4-9. One week until Wildwood! We are currently planning to have pickup on Monday, July 29, because many of the players in the league will need that day to recover and reset.
