Blue faced Black Pearl in the early game tonight. Both teams showed promise on opening night but didn't get a win. Blue outscored White in the second half of their opener, while Black had two chances to win versus Red on U-point, but fell just short. Blue took the early lead in the game vs Black Pearl, 3-2, but Black came back and went on a run to take half 8-4. Once again, Blue put up a valiant effort in the second half, but couldn't complete the comeback. 13-8 Black, final.
The late game matched the two winning teams on opening night. White already has solid chemistry, while Red had a big turnout at tonight's game and sometimes chemistry can be tricky with a lot of players getting to know each other. White got a break point to open the scoring and continued to build a lead, taking half up 8-5. Meta made some excellent deep cuts for scores. Red fought back in the second half, getting a break to narrow White's lead. Sammy and Bri were both scoring points for Red. Then, a floating huck to the left corner of the sandy end zone got a number of players in the air. It seemed like everyone jumped early, but Blake was a skywalker and hung in the air to catch the score for Red. The whole sideline went crazy. After that point, Red scored several breaks in a row to come from a halftime deficit to a narrow lead. White was not going to go quietly. They fought back too, and knotted the score at 14-14 for another U-point late game. Just like Monday, both teams had multiple chances to get the W. On the third try, Red got a nice handler upline cut by Brian Funicelli to catch the game winner. 15-14 Red. A fantastic game to watch.
We don't have league games on Labor Day. Some players were talking about trying to organize pickup at Memorial Park in Beacon. Look at the league's Facebook page and make sure to give a thumbs-up or response to a pickup post if you're interested in playing. League games resume at the Kiln on Thursday, September 5th. Wishing everyone a safe and happy holiday weekend!Â
