Attendance was light for games tonight, but the players in attendance were fired up as the regular season nears its end. Captains are also working to name each team's all-stars. Once those are decided, I will post them on the Facebook group and open voting for summer 2024 league awards, at-large all stars, and all star bingo square ideas. I will also include a survey so you can share feedback about your experience playing in the league this summer. I hope you've had a blast and you're excited to play again. Speaking of playing again, have you filled out your interest form and registration for our fall league? It starts one week after summer league ends, and returning players get a 50% discount.
With their captains unable to play, White Lotus was skippered by Skippy in the early game. He did a fine job, but the team succumbed to the big disc energy of Big Disc Energy. BDE got the win 13-9.
In prime time, Black Pearl sailed above the Blue Wave, getting an important win for the playoff race, 12-10. Rumor has it that Royal T was attending a concert, but I don't believe it was his own show.
In the late game, Area 51 took an early 5-2 lead over shRED, but the arrival of Tom Banney gave shRED the sub they needed, stretching the field to catch some big hucks. Gertz also had a great game shREDding into Area 51's deep space. ShRED went on a run to take half 8-6. Area 51 kept it a two point game until it was 12-10 shRED, but shRED closed the game out on a 3-0 run to win 15-10.
With tonight's win, shRED clinched the #1 overall seed in the playoffs. They had already clinched a first round bye. Even after tonight's loss, Blue Wave still holds a one game lead for the #2 seed and a first round bye. They can clinch the #2 with a win vs Big Disc Energy on Monday. The two teams have only played twice this summer due to rainouts, and they are 1-1 in those matchups. Black Pearl and White Lotus are tied at 8-8 in the standings, with White Pearl holding the tie breaker having gone 3-0 vs Black Pearl this summer. Pearl plays shRED on Monday, while Lotus plays Area 51. Even if Lotus wins Monday and Blue Wave loses, Lotus cannot claim the #2 seed head to head with Blue Wave since Wave won the season series over Lotus. Black Pearl won their season series over Blue Wave, though, so Pearl could still get the #2 seed with a win Monday and Blue Wave and White Lotus losses. If Blue Wave, White Lotus and Black Pearl all end up tied at 9-8, they will each hold a head to head tie break over one of the others, and I'll have to go to point differential to decide the seeding and the #2 seed bye. Big Disc Energy could end up tied with either White Lotus or Black Pearl if BDE wins on Monday and either of the other teams lose. However, both Lotus and Pearl won their season series over BDE, so BDE has clinched the #5 seed. Area 51 has clinched the #6 seed, but look to play spoiler having won at least one game against all teams except BDE this summer, and they're assured of not facing BDE in the opening round of the playoffs.
