The early game had big playoff implications. With a win, Sky Bison could move into the top two in the standings since they led the season series over Purple Rain 2-1. The game was super close too, back and forth with many ties. The Bison were savage while Purple Rain had plenty of subs. Hard cap arrived and the score was tied 10-10. Universe point! The Sky Bison received the pull but couldn't hold. Both teams had multiple chances to score, but Purple Rain was the team that got the point and the win, 11-10. With the victory, Purple Rain held on to the top spot in the standings with one game left to play.
In prime time, Black Pepper only had six players but was able to grab some very appreciated guests. Special shout out to Corinna, who played almost the entire game after playing for Purple. Ice Ice Babies had strong attendance but started the game ice ice cold as Pepper's spicy defense scored three break points in a row. Gradually the Babies cooled Pepper down and took half. The freeze went into full effect in the second half and Babies got the win 13-8, hard cap. I'm still proud of Pepper's short-handed effort. With the win, Ice Ice Babies held on to 2nd place in the standings.
Late game was 14-7, mimosas. Phil was a Mimosa Monster, catching what felt like the majority of Orange’s points. Jimi returned to the Fronds with his best shoulder forward to throw the first point to Kate for a funky almost behind-the-back snag. Caro was a transplant to the garden and really bloomed in every space on the field! Overall, Fronds saw intense defense across the board, with great moves from Jordan, Billy, and Stefan. Mimosas were confident and made lots of good decisions, throwing a solid ho offense and zone defense when the wind picked up. The juice was really flowin’!
There is only one more night of regular season games on Monday, and then playoffs begin on Thursday. The winner of Monday's prime time game between Purple Rain and Ice Ice Babies will be the #1 seed in the playoffs, while the loser will be the #2 seed. Both teams have clinched a bye on Thursday. The other seeds are all decided, and Monday's games between Pepper and Mimosas early and Bison and Fronds late are previews of the opening playoff match-ups that will be played on Thursday.
Playoffs next Thursday: Sky Bison are the #3 seed and the will face #6 Best Fronds in the first playoff game at 7PM, followed by #4 seed Pepper versus #5 Bottomless Mimosas.
