Zombeeeees met Spooky Scary Skeletons tonight in a game that could decide the fall championship. Bees were coming off their bye after defeating Skellies 14-11 in the second round of the playoffs a week ago. Skellies wanted revenge, and more importantly, they needed to win to stay alive in the championship hunt. If Bees won tonight, it'd all be over.
The score was 3-3 before back-to-back breaks by Skellies put them into the lead, 5-3. On the next point, Skellies had another break chance. Bees deflected a deep huck, but Diane stayed with the disc and made a great bid for a layout score. 6-3 Skellies! Catch your D’s. Royal T followed up with a D and assist to Sal for another Skellies break, 7-3. Bees changed to ho and got a hold on a patient point. Eritin with the Bees score. 7-4. Liam got a D and the Bees converted another break. Yasu with the score. 7-5. Bees had another break chance, but Skellies got it back and finally found Royal T for the hold. Skellies took half up 8-5. However, Ezra was done for the night with a bruised wrist. Skellies were left with only one DoM sub for the second half.
Patient offense began the second half. Kate with a great cut for a score. Bees held to start the second half. 8-6. Lindsay got a D for Bees but Skellies got it right back and held for a score by Royal T. Skellies 9-6. Dave to Denthew and Bees held to stay within two, 9-7. A big Skellie huck went too far for Sal, but Bees turned it right back. Skellies tried to find Royal T but the disc was too far out of bounds for his valiant attempt to toe the line. Bees finally ended the long point with a break to Denthew, cutting the Skellie lead to 9-8. Dave got a D for Bees. Patient offense after the turn ended with a Liam to Lindsay break to tie the score at 9-9. Dr B to Sal for a handler to handler score. Skellies held to go back up by one, 10-9 Denthew to Liam, Bees held to tie again, 10-10. Skellies hucked to Skippy but the disc sailed out the back of the end zone. The Learey brothers connected on a big huck that led to a Bees score by Billy Franz. Bees took the lead 11-10!
Another Skellies turn, followed by a slip by Bees to turn it back. Another Skellies turn. Layout by Eritin to keep it alive for the undead hive. A Liam hammer to Yasu for the break to cap another long point. 12-10 Bees. Sal to Royal T, and Skellies held to cut the Bees lead to 12-11. Timeout Bees.
Bees ho stack was too deep, leading to a Skellies D and break score to Keegs. Tied at 12-12. Liam to Dave on a nifty handler give and go for a Bees hold. Back up 13-12. Rare miss from Dr B to Sal. Bees capitalized on an Eritin to Kate score. Bees up 14-12, within one point of the fall championship.
Keegs caught a contested score for a Skellie hold. They still trailed by one, 14-13. Bees could win with a hold. Eritin to Liam for a rare drop. Skellies with a chance to break again. Liam bid for the D in front of Dr B. A dangerous play was called. After discussion, Dr B retained the disc. He found Royal T deep, tying the score 14-14 to force U point!
Lindsay to Liam for the Bees score, but it was just a bit too high to catch, and it resulted in a turn. Skellies moved the disc the other way, and Sal found Keegs for the break and the win. 15-14 Skellies!
It was a back and forth game, and Skellies dug deep into their graveyard to make the final comeback, scoring the games final three points. With the win, Skellies tied Bees with one playoff loss each. Tonight's game ended up being the penultimate game of East Fishkill Fall Ultimate. The teams will play again at 7PM on Monday to decide the fall championship. Game to 15. No hard cap. Don't need to win by two.
Numbers were light for the consolation game, but there were plenty of players to have a great game of goaltimate.
