Fall 2023 Championship! Monday, November 13, 2023

Spooky Scary Skeletons rallied for a come-from-behind win last Thursday, pulling even with Zombeeeees and forcing a rematch tonight to decide the Fall 2023 Championship. It was 38 degrees at the Kiln, and it was a fitting night to wrap up the season.

Skellies had Marisa as their only DoW to start, but Bri G and Ava arrived as teams took the field, and Breezy Bri C and Diane were also on the way. Bees had Meta, Renee, Kate, Mikayla and Lindsay - their full compliment of DoWs.

Bees pulled to Skellies to start the game. Sal’s throw for a score was knocked down by Meta. Yasu's throw for a break score fell incomplete in the end zone. With a second chance, Keegs found Royal T for a Skellies hold. On the ensuing point, Eri’s throw fell incomplete for Bees. Sal's assist to Royal T for a Skellies break put them up 2-0. Dave Atwood completed a big huck to Hanz for Bees first score, 2-1. Sal had a rare drop, and Lindsay capitalized with an assist to Dave for a Bees break to tie the game at 2-2. Zach Locascio got an assist to Keegs who toed the back of the end zone as he scored a Skellies hold. 3-2. On the next point, Meta's throw to Billy was incomplete for Bees. Sal's throw was D'd by Liam, and Liam threw an assist to Meta for a Bees hold, 3-3. Sal hucked for Ezra cutting deep, but Liam made a great leaping D. Yasu threw back to Liam for the bookends. 4-3 Bees, and they called timeout.

Royal T hucked to Diane but Meta made a great D. A Bees drop turned the disc back. Royal T's throw to Sal was D'd by Yasu. Bees turned the disc over again, with Bri Galloway getting the D.. Dr B finally found Royal T for a score and Skellies held to tie at 4-4. Another really long point followed, as Liam's throw to Lindsay sailed of bounds. Sal's huck to Royal T was broken up by Meta making a great defensive play. Finally, a huck from Liam to Hanz secured the Bees hold and they went up 5-4. Royal T's throw to Keegs on the following point was D’d by Liam in the end zone. Bees turned it back when a huck from Yasu to Eri fell incomplete. Skellies kept their break hopes alive on a layout catch from Keegs, but the Skellies couldn't convert. Bees made the most of another opportunity, with a big huck from Dave to Eri caught for the score. 6-4 Bees! Skellies called timeout.

Play resumed with Keegs to Royal T for a quick Skellies hold. 6-5 Bees. Liam to Zack W for a Bees hold. 7-5. The following point, Keegan hucked to Ezra. Eri got the D but a foul was called, no contest. Ezra’s swing pass went out of bounds. Liam hucked to Meta, the disc was deflected in the end zone and Eri caught it for the score! Bees took half 8-5.

Bees received the pull in the second half and worked their way down the field. A pick called in the end zone, but Bees players froze on the call and the disc fell incomplete for a turnover. Royal T's throw to Breezy fell incomplete, giving Bees another chance. Dave found Eri for the Bees score with Sal in hot pursuit. Bees held 9-5. On the sideline, Kate was singing to the Bees to "Work hard for the honey!" Zach hucked to Royal T who went fully horizontal into the sand to catch a Skellies score, but he landed out the back of the end zone. He got right back up and D'd Liam's huck to Eri. Skellies' next chance, Sal was D’d by Liam. Bees hucked to Dave also went too far. Finally, Royal T to Zach for the difficult hold. Royal T layed out for a score, got a D, and threw for a score all on the same point. Skellies sideline also loudly pointed out that the score was six to nine. 

Play resumed with Liam throwing to Lindsay for a Bees hold. 10-6. Dr B responded with an assist to Royal T for a patient Skellies hold. 10-7. Kate's throw to Mufasa fell incomplete, and Dr B found Sal for a Skellies break. Timeout Bees. Skellies cheered, "Grind them bones." 10-8, Bees with Skellies cutting the lead to 2. 

Bees' next possession, Yasu's throw to Billy was D'd by Ezra. Royal T threw an assist to Dr B for the break. Skellies were within one, 10-9.

Zack W to Hanz for an important Bees hold. Back up by two. 11-9. Zack followed up his assist with a D on a throw to Royal T. Ezra got a D for Skellies at the other end. Sal made a layout grab to keep it alive for Skellies and then he found Ava for a hold. Back to a one-point game again, 11-10 Bees.  Next point, there was a foul no contest at midfield. Bees retained possession. Liam to Lindsay for a Bees hold, 12-10. On the next point, Zach L's throw was intercepted by Liam. Skellies poached on Eri, Dave saw Hanz cutting all alone deep and hucked to him for a big Bees break. 13-10.

Keegs looked for Marisa deep on the next point for Skellies, but the throw was off the mark. Liam made a great cut, catch, and throw to Eri for another Bees break, 14-10. The sidelines cheered, "Let’s go Zombeeeees! Go get them brains!" 

There was no more margin for error for Skellies. Dr B found Royal T deep, but he was not in. He found the handler reset and cut again for the Skellies score. 14-11. On the next point, Meta had a rare drop. Sal capitalized to Marisa for a Skellies break! 14-12. Could Skellies come back again like they did last Thursday? 

Bees with a chance to hold and win. Liam's throw to Yasu in the end zone fell incomplete! But Yasu kept right on running and he got the D for Bees. This time,  Eri caught the championship point from Dave, and Bees won 15-12. Great game!

Skellies cheered, "Congratulations way to Bee!"

Bees replied, "That was spooky scary! Great season!" They also cheered, "Give me a B." 

"B!"

"What’s that spell?" 

"Bee!"

If the three of us handn't been able to play catch on the field during timeouts and halftime, I think I may have frozen to death.
