Fall 2022 draft and first three nights of the season

Captains connected on-line for the draft on Friday, August 26th. Marisa and Keegs made a glorious return to the league to captain White Claw. Diane and Bobby teamed up as captains again, but switched from summer black to fall purple, leading the Galactic Eggplants. Bri G. and Dillon paired up to lead the orange Juice. Caro and Jimi once again hoisted the sails of the Black Pearl.

White Claw

Marisa's White Claw team went winless last fall in spite of having some talented players. This year, White Claw looks insanely good. I'm not saying they would go to Regionals, but they would win games at Sectionals this weekend in Middletown. It's crazy to think a rec league team would assemble that kind of talent. In fact, though White Claw is not a club team, they do have six players on their roster who play for the Funk - the most of any team in the league this fall - plus Walt, who is playing for Blueprint, and Christina and Kate, who are playing for Rush Hour.

Galactic Eggplants

Diane and Bobby are joined by multiple Funk players, including past East Fishkill Callahan winners Cheyenne and Zac, as well as other experienced club players like Dave Atwood, Yasu Yukawa and Royal T. They have an athletic and experienced group that should never be counted out.

The Juice

Bri and Dillon put together a squad that features Funk players Liam McCarthy, Mattie Drucker and Lindsay Ork, as well as a number of other experienced college and club players. They have a good mix of handlers and cutters and should be a fun team to watch.

Black Pearl

Caro and Jimi are playing for Bent and Blueprint, and both of them also have professional ultimate experience. This fall's Black Pearl is light on current club players compared to other teams, but they have a strong squad with great chemistry. They figure to be the most organized of all the teams in their approach - especially playing Pearl's brand of zone defense. They are a team you can't sleep on or you will find yourself keel hauled. Yar.

Opening three nights of the fall season

Monday, August 29th,

White Claw was white hot in the opener, roasting the Galactic Eggplants 15-8, though the Eggplants made a nice comeback in the second half, making sure they stayed al dente. Black Pearl's zone defense led to a number of easy one-throw scores, defeating the Juice 15-11. Similar to the Eggplants' comeback, the Juice had a much stronger second half, preventing a scurvy final.

Thursday, September 1st,

The Galactic Eggplants were looking peeled for parmigiana early, as Black Pearl led 11-3 in the second half. Then, the Eggplants made a certifiably Galactic comeback to win the game on U-point, 15-14. The final throw of the game went outside-in on the home sidelines, nearly taking someone's face off (give sideline, folks!) before bending back into the end zone where Flex made a great catch while keeping a foot in. In the late game, White Claw went to 2-0 on the season, defeating the Juice 15-10 in the Battle of the Beverages. Sadly, Nova injured his shoulder on an end zone bid for the Juice. Serve chilled.

Monday, September 5th the league had no games because of the Labor Day holiday.

Thursday, September 8th,

The Juice got their first win of the season, defeating the Galactic Eggplants 15-6 in the early game. In the late game, White Claw remained unbeaten, buzzing the Black Pearl 14-7. Jimi says Keegan owes me a write-up.
