The field was open after yet another rain, and we elected to play in hopes the field would be drier than it was after Hurrican Ida passed through last week. The field had in fact dried out a little, so instead of being a complete mud pit, it was more of a squishy bog, and the remains of muddy footprints made every poor decision from last week plain to see.
Green faced Purple in the early game, aka: the Mystery of the Kraken. Mystery Inc. wasn't missing a single clue early, as Green was in command. The Kraken was missing quite a few tentacles, as Purple struggled to settle down early. Green went up 6-0, all on break points, before Purple finally scored to avoid a bagel situation. After Green took half 8-2, Purple made a nice comeback late. Jane, Walter, Gary and Nova all earned Scooby Snacks for Green. Kraken's top tentacles were Peri, Vicky, Tom and Tyler. The final was 15-8 Green, as the meddling kids unmasked the Kraken. It turned out to be Mufasa.
The late game was Black vs White, aka Black Pearl vs White Claw. Similar to the early game, several pirates and claws were not in attendance, and rumor had it that some of them were preparing for Sectionals with their club teams this coming weekend. Black Pearl played some pirate zone, while White Claw used their pincers to make some nifty catches, swimming sideways to find open looks for scores. As the game continued, piracy ruled the seas, with Black Pearl dining upon seafood for their second straight victory, 15-8.
If you are not part of one of the club teams playing in the USAU New York Metro Sectionals tournament this weekend, you may still want to consider coming to Middletown to cheer on players from the league at Blue Sky Polo Grounds. Lots of players from the league are part of the Hudson Valley Funk, while others play for Xist, Grand Army and other teams.
