It was a lovely evening at the Kiln, especially if you were a mosquito. That said, ultimate players were having fun too.
The early game was the Mystery of the White Claw. It was nice to see the disc getting shared between experienced players and players still learning the game. Both teams had good numbers. The only real disparity was on the scoreboard, where Mystery had a commanding lead. White struggled against Green's aggressive defense until some nice hucks over the top got them on the comeback trail. In the end, Mystery said, "Zoinks," as they unmasked the Claw 15-5, remaining the league's only unbeaten team so far this fall.
The late game featured the Kraken's latest attempt to sink the Black Pearl. Purple tentacles encircled the pirate vessel early, as Kraken built a lead, but the Pearl fought back with a big run to get back even before Kraken took half on serve 8-7. The second half stayed close. The Pearl used two more timeouts in the game than they usually do. (Pirates evidently don't normally believe in timeouts.) With the score tied 13-13, Black Pearl scored the final two points of the game, to escape the Kraken with a narrow 15-13 victory.
On Monday, Black Pearl sets sail to face White Claw early, followed by the Mystery of the Kraken late.
