After such a chilly night on Monday, it was positively beautiful at the Kiln tonight.
Black Pearl had a number of buccaneers abandon ship tonight, including Caro and Jimi. Caro is of course playing for XIST at Nationals in San Diego. Kraken was short several tentacles as well, including Luisa and Abby who also play for XIST. Some friends joined the game to make up for their absences. Pearl got off to an early lead, and took half. Kraken hung around, and true to their "second half team" mantra, Kraken tied the score at 13-13. Pearl held, taking the lead 14-13. The next point was back and forth. Jane, guesting for Kraken, got the disc near the end zone and did a very un-Kraken thing: she called a timeout. The team had a plan to score, but Zay intervened to get a D for Pearl, and completed the bookends on a long throw to score the game winner, 15-13 Pearl. Pearl won the season series 4-0 over Kraken, but each game was decided by only one or two points.
Mystery defeated White Claw 15-6 in the late game. With their wins, Black Pearl and Mystery are still tied atop the standings, with Mystery holding the tie break by winning the season series 2-1 between the two teams. Monday is the season finale, so a win by one team and a loss by the other could change their playoff seeding. Kraken and White Claw have already clinched the 3 and 4 seeds.
Speaking of Monday, it is also when we will celebrate our Halloween games. Wear a costume you can play disc in. Candy will be served. We will hopefully grab a group photo for the website too.
Playoffs begin on Thursday, October 28th. The schedule will be updated once the playoff seeds are confirmed.
