After a two week hiatus due to the 4th of July weekend and two rain outs, play resumed at the Kiln. Red faced Black in the early game, with Red having enough players for a wholesale and more, while Black only had one sub. Red used their numbers and athleticism to their full advantage, building an early lead. The first half was punctuated by an extremely long point where both teams had FOUR chances to score. After seven turnovers in the end zones, and a crazy amount of back and forth, Black finally punched in the score to get on the board. Red preserved their lead into the half, and led comfortably when the hard cap was reached to start the late game. The final was Red 14-Black 6.
The late game featured the best turnout of the season so far for Blue versus a strong White team looking for revenge after their loss to Blue two weeks ago. White opened the game with two break scores before Blue finally got on the board. Both teams played chilly defense. The game went back and forth until Blue got White's breaks back, tying the score at 7-7. With another scoring opportunity, Blue called timeout at the goal line and executed a beautiful play to take half 8-7. Blue held on to the lead in the second half and went on to win the game 15-11.
White's two consecutive losses to Blue, combined with Red's win over Black, put Red alone in first place by one game. Red is the hottest team in the league, winning six straight. Blue has won two in a row, and faces Red on Monday. The two teams have faced each other only once so far this season due to rain outs. Red's last loss was by one point to Black, 17-16 U-Point, in one of the best games of the season way back on June 10th. Black and White will look to rebound in the late game on Monday.
Halloween in July will be next Thursday, July 22nd. Wear something fun and light that you can play Ultimate in. Team costumes are encouraged but not required. Candy will be served. Bring your camera: we are always looking for good pictures for the Facebook group and the Website!
Only two more weeks of our summer season until the playoffs start, right after Wildwood. Also keep an eye on our Facebook group for information about our All Star and Summer Awards ballots, which should be posted soon, and keep an eye out for our Fall league interest form too. Our Fall season usually includes a lot of returning players from Summer, and our Fall league fee should be more affordable too.
