Days are getting shorter, but the games seem to be getting longer, as both of tonight's match-ups featured some long points with lots of turnovers.
White Claw was pinching the Black Pearl quite a bit, and the score was awfully close as it took a long time to get to 8 points. There was wind at the Kiln and both teams were playing some zone defense. As the second half began, a hard cap was declared when the clock got to precisely 7:54 PM. By that time, what had been a one point game had grown to a lead for the Pearl. The White Claw got in the final pinch, but Black Pearl got the win, 12-9, hard cap.
Wind calmed for the late game, but the humidity was thick and the disc was slippery, so the turnovers continued. Thus far this season, Green has solved every mystery thrown their way, but the Kraken was determined to be their undoing. Purple wanted to get away with it, in spite of the meddling kids from Green. Most of the game, the score was either tied or Purple with a lead, and Purple took half on serve, up 8-7. The Purple Kraken got a break to start the second half, and looked to stay ahead until the long points started happening, similar to the early game.
The play of the night ended one of those long points, after both teams had missed opportunities to score, Walter blocked a throw about five yards in front of the end zone, and the deflected disc spun in where Walter caught it himself for a Callahan! Huge score for Mystery. The teams agreed to a hard cap at 9:30 PM, and Green scored on two points late to pull away and unmask the Kraken, 13-11, hard cap.
There is a seafood special this Thursday as Kraken & Claws are featured in the early game. The late game is the Mystery of the Black Pearl. In their last matchup, Mystery unmasked the Pearl, handing Black their only loss so far this season. In spite of tonight's close call, Mystery remain unbeaten.
