Temperatures at the Kiln were in the 40s tonight, which was cold enough to remind players that "Winter is coming." In fact, some may have quipped that it was already here.
The early game between White Claw and Purple Kraken was so close it was decided by a single break. It ended in a 13-12 U-point hard cap win for Kraken. Claw played well enough to win this one, as they have a number of other games this season.
In the late game between Mystery Inc and Black Pearl, Pearl's attendance was low, and they picked up some guest players. Two weeks ago, Pearl and Friends earned a hard-fought one-point win over Kraken. Tonight, Mystery defeated Pearl and Some Different Friends 15-12. Tonight's win by Mystery could have playoff seeding implications. With the win, Mystery took the season series over Pearl 2-1, which puts Mystery narrowly atop the standings based on that tiebreaker.
There are two game nights left in the fall season before playoffs begin. Thursday, Pearl vs Kraken early, followed by Mystery vs Claw. Next Monday, Mystery vs Kraken early, followed by Pearl vs Claw. Kraken and Claw have already clinched the 3rd and 4th playoff seeds, but the 1 and 2 are too close to call. A loss by either Mystery or Pearl could change the opening playoff match-ups. But, hey, remember that most of the games this season have been close, even though the standings don't necessarily reflect that parity. All four teams make the playoffs, and in a double-elimination format every team has a chance to win it all, even after a playoff loss.
Remember, Halloween games are a week from tonight, Monday, October 25th at the Kiln. Candy, costumes and spirit will rule the night on our last games before playoffs.
