Monday's regular season finale games were cancelled due to expected storms, and six of us ended up playing 3v3 pickup instead on what turned out to be a beautiful night. Tuesday, the skies opened up and the field was thoroughly soaked. Did it dry out for playoffs tonight? No. Absolutely not. It was a mud pit with standing water along the far sideline. Good times.
It was also Halloween for the league, and I really appreciate the spirit of everyone who dressed up to play, and everyone else too, to be honest. Thank you for coming to spend a muddy night at the Kiln.
The opening playoff game was top-seed Mystery versus fourth-seed White Claw. Claw has struggled in search of the win column all fall, and they wanted it for sure tonight. They battled first-place Mystery throughout, and kept the game within one point late in the second half. Mystery just managed to execute a little better down the stretch, getting the game's final points to earn a narrow victory 15-11 over White Claw.
The late game was third-seed Kraken versus second-seed Black Pearl. Black Pearl swept the season series versus Kraken, but the games were all close. Tonight, Kraken was missing a number of players. While Pearl had more players available, they were missing both of their co-captains and two more pirates, Royal-T and Bill Baer, were on the sidelines with injuries. Far be it from Krakens to take advantage of a pirate ship without a full crew, but sometimes Krakens gotta get released. Kraken shared the disc well, and came away with the win 15-7.
Losers of tonight's games, Claw and Pearl, will meet in an elimination game on Monday at 6:30, followed by Mystery and Kraken facing off in the winner's game at 7:45. The winner of the late game will earn a bye on Thursday. See the schedule for more details.
