Warmer at the Kiln than it has been the past few games. Temperatures in the mid-50s, with occasional gusts of wind. Black Pearl and Mystery met to decide the Fall Championship.
Mystery wore white instead of their usual dark green. They entered the playoffs as the top seed, and won their first two playoff games to earn a bye to the final. Black Pearl lost their opening playoff game versus Kraken and had to battle their way back to the finals by winning three games in a row, including a defeat of Mystery on Monday.
Black Pearl started strong with a score on offense followed by a break to lead 2-0. Mystery got on the board 2-1, and Pearl went on a run from there to open a 6-1 lead. Mystery battled back, but Pearl took half 8-6.
Black Pearl continued to lead in the second half, but Mystery hung around. When the game looked like it was getting out of reach, Mystery cut the lead down to two points 14-12. Pearl finally got the score they needed to get the win, 15-12. Pearl's zone defense and chilly play on offense carried the day.
Great season, Mystery, and congratulations to Black Pearl, repeating as fall champions in 2019 and 2021, with no season in between due to COVID.
Hoping we can get six teams together in Summer 2022.
