There was some concern about rain tonight, but the field was open and games were on. Monday and Thursday games for just the second time in this soggy summer season!
The early game was a battle of unbeatens. Green vs Yellow, both 4-0, vying for first place and an unblemished record. The sky was gray, and the game was close. Hard cap, the game went to U-point. The point was decided in the air above the end zone. Two captains. One disc. Back to back Callahan winning Zac looking to get the D. Ryan looking to score the game winner... And Ryan got the disc! Of the victory, Ryan said, "Game of the century, of the week." After the loss, Zac retreated to his car. A rematch of this epic contest is scheduled in prime time on July 11th. I expect the trash talk to be thick, and the sidelines to be crowded.
Speaking of prime time, the second game of the night was White versus Red. I'm not sure if weather affected the outcome, but White narrowly defeated Red 15-3.
Rain grew heavier at times as the evening wore on, but it never stopped play. While Zac remained dry in his car, Black and Blue played a heated contest in the nightcap. Like the Green victory early, this game was also decided on Universe point. It was Blue securing the win, 15-14.
With tonight's results, there are no ties in the standings. Green remains unbeaten, followed by Yellow. Blue, winners of two straight, have climbed into third place. White in fourth with a solid win. Black in fifth, winless after their season opening victory, and Red yet to get a win in spite of some inspired play.
We've added some late sign-ups to teams, and I believe we'll cap rosters at this point. Our jersey orders should be live very soon. See our Facebook page for more details.
