Our dope, fresh, funky and fly new jerseys and reversible tanks were distributed at the field tonight, and it was great to see so many players rocking new kit. There are a few folks who were not at games tonight who ordered league clothes. If you are one of those folks, I have your stuff and I will bring it to the playoff games next week. Or, if it sounded like you will not be around, I gave your stuff to someone I trust who promised to get it to you.
White had a very talented, but unfortunately 100% masculine, team for the early game. They prevailed over a solid Red team, 15-4. White had already clinched the 4 seed in the playoffs, and Red had clinched the 6. Red may not have won any games during the regular season, but their spirit was in my opinion tops in the whole league. I encourage everyone to remember this when voting for Summer awards - the poll will be posted very soon (still waiting on the captains to provide their team all-stars first - hint, hint, captains)
Blue and Black played an extremely close game in prime time. Black took half 8-7. There were many ties. Blue came away with the win 14-12, hard cap. Blue had already clinched the 3 seed, and Black the 5.
Yellow and Green met in the late game to decide the overall 1 seed in the playoffs. Yellow was up in the standings, but with a win Green would have tied them and owned the tie break. The game was a lot of fun to watch, with both teams making some great plays on offense and defense. Yellow came away with the win, 15-12. Both teams had already clinched a bye on Monday. As the 1 seed, Yellow will play the lowest seed to advance from Monday's games on Thursday. Green will play the highest seed to advance.
Thank you, captains and players one and all, for some great regular season games this summer. It has been historically rainy, with a league record 9 game nights rained out. Let's hope that is a record that is never broken. More importantly, we're on to the PLAYOFFS. As the great Ultimate philosopher and Wildwood recruiter John Waldie is fond of saying, "YOU NEED THIS!"
