Scooby Blue won 11-8 over Black Pearl hard cap in the early game. Many weary Funk players played in the game. When you see a Scooby Blue player, make sure to ask them their favorite snack. Similarly, when greeting a Black Pearl player, be sure to inquire about their pirate name.
In the late game, Polar Bears took half while Blood was looking thin. The game was looking out of reach as the Polar Bear score reached 11. Blood fought back but still trailed 9-13, then 11-14. There were three points in a row that lasted what seemed like forever. Attention on the sidelines was on a group of players attempting to tie cleats with their toes. Somehow, Blood began to heat up. They rattled off three straight breaks to tie the game at 14-14. On U point, both teams had chances to score. Gary put a big huck to Connor who attracted Bobby and Tom defending in the end zone. All three players went up as the sidelines held their breath, and it was a TURN. The Polar Bears worked the disc to midfield, but gave it back. This time, Blood completed the break and a feverish comeback to win the game 15-14.
Truly a crazy night, with great spirit and energy - especially the day after Sectionals for the club players that were in attendance. I know it was a sad outcome over the weekend for the Funk, narrowly missing a bid to Regionals, but I was encouraged by the improvement of the team year to year, and I look forward to next season. I'm proud of the culture Jimi, Bri and Caro have created on the team, and the way they represent the Mid-Hudson Valley. #ILiveForTheFunk
