After an unprecedented amount of rain and cancellations, the clouds parted and we had a beautiful day to get our second games of the season underway. Blue squared off versus Red in the early game. While there was no rain, there was rather a lot of wind... The game featured a lot of turnovers and long points. While the squads looked pretty closely matched, Blue was able to gain better field position and make chilly passes for scores, building a lead they would not surrender. Red had some nice plays, but not enough. Blue won the game 12-5, hard cap due to all the long points.
Black started off with two breaks before Green got on the board in the prime time game. Black built an even larger lead, making the most of quick scores after turns - again with the wind making play difficult. Green got hot in the second half, going on a run to tie the score at 8-8 with a bunch of breaks of their own. The game went back and forth for the next few points, but Black faded down the stretch, with Green capping their comeback with a 15-11 win.
White and Yellow both had extremely talented squads for the late game, and the score looked like it would be close early. However, the air was filled with the hungry hum of millions of mosquitos. The commish had to flee to his car before their winged onslaught bled him dry. After he left, according to eye witnesses, the game remained close, but similar to the Green - Black contest, one team held on for a four point win. In this case, it was Yellow getting the victory.
With two games played, Yellow and Green remain unbeaten, while Red and White have yet to notch a win. Blue and Black are knotted at 0.500. However, it's tough to read too much into that since there are multiple matchups that haven't faced off yet. There are also a few late sign ups who we will do our best to roster.
Let's hope the weather remains nice and we can start playing games as scheduled. Looking forward to Summer!
