A beautiful day for disc at the Kiln. Blue had only five players for the early game, while White had an uncharacteristically large turnout in spite of (or perhaps because of?) the illness of their captain. White showed good spirit, matching Blue 5v5, but they played chilly disc and built a massive lead, 8-1 at the half. White wanted to play 7s with all their numbers, and let Blue pick up some players for the second half. White scored again to bring the lead to 9-1. Then, Blue launched what appeared a most improbable comeback. Gaining some breaks, mostly on unforced errors by White players who normally would not do such things, Blue climbed back narrowing the lead to 4, then 2, and then tied the score. In spite of their subs, White appeared the slower team, and with more subs perhaps the players didn't know each other well enough. Blue was running hard to mark the first throw on pulls. Tom Manner and Chris America looked particularly quick. I would never have guessed it at half, but Blue completed an epic comeback, winning the game 15-12. With the victory, Blue remained in third place as the winners of five of their last six games. Their only loss in that span was to Yellow.
In the prime time game, Red found themselves short handed due to some player injuries. Green let them pick up some players, and then proceeded to win the game anyway, 15-5. Kate Bedrossian caught a tricky hammer for the game winning score. Green has had quick cutters and very good turnout all season. They remained atop the standings holding a head-to-head victory over Yellow in their only matchup so far.
In the late game, Black capitalized on some early Yellow turnovers to build a lead. Yellow came back behind some big throws for scores. While Black played well enough to keep it from being a blowout, Yellow was not to be denied, continuing their win streak while they have players away on a Spanish pilgrimage. The final tonight was Yellow 15 - Black 10.
Tonight is the last night to place orders for league jerseys and tanks. Get your orders in if you haven't already.
It's also a good time to think about something fun to wear to next Monday's games as we celebrate Halloween in July (7/15/2019). Candy will be served.
