Wildwood Hangover Monday
Wildwood Hangover Monday
Turnout was light as many players were sore or hung over or both from the annual weekend of beach ulti in New Jersey. This season featured an unprecedented number of rainouts, and after tonight only one more night of regular season games remains to be played. Playoffs start next week.
Yellow squared off versus Black in the early game. Yellow received and turned the disc over. Black scored a break to lead 1-0. After a few points, Yellow battled back to build a lead. Yellow took half 8-5. Black scored to start the second half, and was able to stay within two points for much of the game. Ultimately, Yellow would not surrender their lead. Zac and Chey scored a lot of honey points, and Yellow prevailed 15-9.
White vs Blue was 5v5 due to light turnout, and Tom Banney had a banner day catching scores for White. Blue was blue as White prevailed 15-5.
According to reports, Red gave Green a scare, but Green managed to hang on and win the late game 15-8.
The playoff picture looks like this:
Head to Head Irregularities Due to Rain:
Due to all the rainouts this season, the number of head to head match-ups varies wildly. Most of the head to head match-ups have happened three times, but Green-Yellow, Blue-Black, and White-Red have only faced off once so far this season. Green beat Yellow by forfeit that night. Blue edged Black by a single point. Those match-ups are scheduled again in the regular season finale this Thursday, August 1st, so hopefully those teams will get to meet each other at least twice.
Green-White, Yellow-Blue, and Black-Red match-ups only happened once this season - on July 1st. Every other scheduled match of those pairings was rained out. Interestingly, two of those July 1 games were decided by only one point: Green 13-White 12, and Yellow 15-Blue 14. It'd be cool to see rematches of those games.
Reasons to Play Thursday:
Since the playoff seedings are already pretty much sowed up, you'd think the games on Thursday might not matter much. There are at least four reasons to come to games this Thursday:
It is also possible the games will be rained out... but I hope not. We've had a superfluity of rainouts already this season.
