Tonight's playoff elimination semi-final was between Blood and Scooby Blue. Blood was savage, while the Scoobys had subs, likely due to the promise of snacks. The first several points were long, and perhaps surprisingly it was tied at 4-4 when Blue scored to take a 5-4 lead. Blood was thin. Allie had received a flu shot so recently she could feel it starting to kick in. Schmack appeared to be dying, but continued to play. The Scoobys subbed players in and out with flagrant disregard of Blood's lack of depth. Blue took half on a nice catch by Zach Dreiss that the elderly commish got a hand on, but not enough to break up the play.
In the second half, Scooby Blue retained a comfortable lead. Zac Schiff was poaching on defense like Robin Hood and his merry men, and the Scoobys scored untold numbers of points on up-line handler cuts to the force side of the end zone. Pretty play of the game for Blood was Ben Phillips deflecting a Blue pass to the commish, who turned with a quick continue throw as Ben cut for the bookends. The commish ended the game with three assists for Blood, but missed a chance at a bookends himself when he cut after catching a D only to have a beautiful throw from Brian Funicelli sail completely untouched between his hands.
The final was Scooby Blue 15 - Blood 9. Great season, Blood, it was a pleasure playing with you. Scooby Blue advances to the finals versus Black Pearl, scheduled at 6:30 this Thursday. If Black wins the game, they are the Fall champs. If Blue wins the game, there will be an immediate rematch of the two teams to decide the championship. Rumor has it that Black Pearl wants to maximize play time and plans to make it a two game affair no matter what.
In the aftermath of tonight's game, Black Pearl scouts Caro and Jimi were playing catch on the field when a fox appeared. I'm sure it was the same folks who had eyes for our cone a few games back. At first, it started to take Shmack's coat from the sidelines, but then decided to take the field and cut for Jimi and Caro's disc. It secured the disc and headed for the woods! I'm not sure what happened to the disc. Marisa was capturing the entire affair on video using her phone, but in her excitement she neglected to press record. You'll have to trust me that the whole scene was endlessly entertaining.
Thanks to everyone who came to the field tonight!
