The league got Black and Blue in the early game tonight. These two teams both have some great talent on their rosters, but they've struggled to get W's. Tall Ryan was on the sideline giving moral support to Black. Blue only had five players at the start of the game, in spite of boasting the league's largest roster. Black were good sports and let Blue add some guests from Red, Yellow and Green to have seven and some subs. The game was close with a lot of long back and forth points. It went to hard cap with the score tied. Universe point! Both teams had a chance to get the win, and it was Black that closed the deal. 11-10, Black got the victory.
In prime time, Green had their core of PDS alums Noam, Eli and Cam, plus their coach Dan all at a game together for (I believe) the first time this season, with Caro, Kate, John G, David, Graham and Rob rounding out a very talented side. Yellow countered with a squad that hasn't lost since early June, riding the summer's longest winning streak. That loss? It was to Green by one point. The commish scored the first point of the game, and the score went back and forth with both teams usually holding on offense. Green got a couple of breaks and led at the half 8-7. Captain Zac announced his second half strategy was to outscore Green, noting that Yellow needed to get those breaks back.
Second half of Green vs Yellow, the sun had gone down behind the trees making it possible to see big hucks without losing the disc in the glare... and both teams capitalized with full field BOMBS to John Geraghty and Zac. A disc just out of bounds saw Phil make an absolutely perfect Greatest throw back onto the field of play for Yellow. It was so good that other players stood stunned. Peri made a diving bid to keep possession, but it fell to the turf: a turn. The entire sideline was already having a seizure. If it had been caught, the Kiln would have gone fully and completely bananas. A few frosty defensive plays later and Yellow managed to tie, and then go up one. Time winding down, and Yellow held on to keep their streak intact, narrowly defeating a very strong Green team 15-13.
In the nightcap, White started with six and a guest versus a loaded Red team. White's roster was bolstered by the late arrival of one Robert F. Owens, who came straight from work and flew down the hill to the field like young Goku on a cloud. The two teams lit up the night with some nifty runs and throws. Dr. B. left his usual handling role for Red to make a deep cut for a score, and Brian made an epic cross to catch a contested score in stride. Red got the win 15-10, and captain Tom celebrated by distributing bright red sunglasses to the team as they celebrated their victory.
Halloween in July is one week from tonight! Thursday, July 19th. Candy will be served, and the wearer of the best costume (as judged shamelessly by the commish) will earn a disc from the commissioner's private stash.
