Beautiful night at the Kiln. Blue faced off against White in an elimination game. Blue beat White on the first night of the playoffs, 15-14 on U-point, but White battled back knocking out Yellow in the loser's bracket on Monday. Blue had a strong squad and good numbers tonight. White had only six, including zero ladies. How did this affect the game? White got tired. Blue couldn't play the zone they would have preferred to use on defense, playing only 6v6. Matchups also pitted very tall gentlemen from White against very skilled but perhaps vertically challenged ladies from Blue. White led 8-4 at half.
In the second half, White had a blade become a turn, and the disc was rolling fast when it took a turn towards their end zone. The disc was rapidly giving Blue a very short field when - out of nowhere - Gary made a layout bid to stop the roll. Defensive play of the game? Perhaps. Blue used their numbers to sub and tire White out, but White's chilly handling and tall cutting proved too tough. The final was White 15 - Blue 8.
White faces Red next week for the Fall Championship. If Red wins, they'll grab the crown since White already has one playoff loss. If White prevails, the teams will play again the following game night to conclude the double-elimination format. Blue, my hat is off to you for great spirit and an excellent season.
