Red was missing Zac tonight, but still had a strong squad. Blue played some inspired disc. The early game between the two teams went back and forth, with both teams holding a multi-point lead at different times. The score was tied 12-12 at the end of regulation on a last second point. Both teams scored in the overtime, and Blue received the pull with twenty seconds left on the clock. They turned the disc over, and Red was able to capitalize working the disc downfield. Chris Peri scored the walk-off universe point while well defended. The final was 14-13 Red. A tough loss for Blue, since they had a great chance to make it two losses in a row for first place Red. Blue played an excellent game.
The late match was between Black and White. The last time these teams played, they didn't play. Both teams lost in a double forfeit. Eager to not repeat that embarrassment, both squads fielded a team tonight. Off to a good start. Black, winners of two straight, wanted to prove they could beat White, the only team they haven't defeated yet this season. White wanted to stay close to Red. It was White that got out to an early lead and they led by four at halftime. Black kept it close and pulled to within three points a few times in the second half, but couldn't get the break scores they needed to narrow the gap more than that. After closing to 11-8, Black did not score again as time ran down. Final score was White 14 - Black 8.
We're over the halfway point in the Fall season. Red is in first place at 6-2. White is only one game back at 5-3. Black is at 3-5, and Blue at 1-7, but both teams have showed they could win on any given night - especially if they can convince some of their absentee players to grace us with their divine throws, cuts and catches. Tonight was a beautiful night to play some disc. If you weren't there, you were missed.
