Thanks to everyone for signing up to play Ultimate in East Fishkill this summer. We held our first ever Summer Draft on May 8th, and the six captains selected rosters from over 115 players. Players in the league include seven Grand Masters with over 20 years playing experience as well as eight players who have never played Ultimate before. Five of our players have either been to Nationals with a college or club team or played professional ultimate in the MLU or AUDL. 32 more players have been on teams that have been to Regionals, and another 32 have been to Sectionals.
The Yellow team, captained by Dan Fisherman, won the draft lottery and chose Frank Segro and Sarah Ashcroft with the first overall pick. The team also includes Trevor Thomas, Anthony Bonavoglia, Isaac Santner, Noam Fisherman, and newcomer to our league Sam Gartenstein from Vassar College. Five players on the roster have been on teams that have gone to Regionals.
The Blue team, captained by Chris America, chose Matt Keegan and Jesse Moore with their first pick. Keegs brings National Championship experience from his play with Bentley Icehouse, while Jesse adds her experience playing with a strong Boomslang squad. The team also includes Walter Roosa, the captain of GUNX, and sleeper pick John Mosho from Marist College. They have the most high school players of any roster, with five. They may also have an attendance problem, with only eight players planning to play in every game.
The Black team, captained by Tom Manner, chose two-time East Fishkill Callahan award winner Emory Crane and Bri Broski with their first pick. Both have solid club experience and they play well together. Their other players include handlers Corey Vaccaro and Christina Pacella, as well as Nick Boyd and Nick VanTassell. Five players on the roster have been on teams that have gone to Regionals.
The Red team, captained by Jim Ground, chose Jimi O'Connell with their first pick. Jimi has captained a strong Cortland team, and played with the Philadelphia Phoenix in the AUDL. They are joined by Frankie Tobitsch, Meg Dubowsky, Eric London, and several other experienced handlers. The team projects to have strong attendance with 16 players saying they plan to attend all games, though they do not have as much high-level experience as the other rosters, with only three players that have played at Regionals, and two of them are not expected to play full-time.
The Green team, captained by Ryan Stratton, chose Tyler Wilcha and Samantha Manicone with their first pick. Tyler and Samantha are excellent all-around players. Tyler is also the man behind ultimatefrisbeehq.com. Green also includes Gary Chasteen, the McGovern sisters, and a total of nine players who have experience at Regionals. They include Mark Ravetto and Isaiah Casiano, who are both great but they are not likely to be available for much of the season. They have nine players expecting to play in every game, second fewest just ahead of Blue.
The White team, captained by Cody Schatzle, had Justin LaMarche as baggage and added Brian Funicelli and Kerry Beyrer with their first two picks. That's a formidable foursome, though Justin and Kerry, who both have experience at Nationals, are part-time players. The team also includes Alex Trainor and Randy Werkmeister from Cortland, and a total of seven players who have been to Regionals or better. Their only weakness may be attendance. They have nine players expecting to play in every game, tied with Green.
See the full team rosters posted on our Teams page. Pickup today - May 9th. Our season starts next Monday, May 16th. Our schedule is posted. Expect an e-mail from your captain about fees and other info - make sure you confirm your availability, especially if you are still away at school or are unavailable to play for any other reason. Thanks!
