Blue and Black faced off in a Thunderdome style playoff battle tonight. Two teams enter. One team leaves. Blue took advantage of some Black miscues and built an early four point lead, which they were able to retain going into the half, up 9-5. Blue's philosophy to avoid giving up breaks was working for them, figuring if they could go score for score with a high-powered Black team they could keep their lead and win.
With under ten minutes to play, the margin was still Blue by four, 12-8, even fter a three point run by Black. Tom had added a huge score for Blue. Black mounted a final push to get back into the game, holding Blue at 14 points, while they went from 11-12-13-and finally 14-14 to tie. Black had no timeouts left. With 1:30 to play, Blue elected to let the clock roll, hoping they could move the disc down the field for the win. Time expired with the score tied, and the teams went to a 5 minute overtime.
Black received the disc, and score the first point of the OT. A Blue turnover led to a two point advantage for Black. Black added a final point as the clock ran out on Blue. Black scored the game's final six points, including all three in overtime. An outstanding effort by blue, and an epic comeback by Black. A classic game.
Black plays White this Thursday at 7 PM. With a win, White will be the Fall champions. If Black wins, both teams will have one playoff loss and they would face off again on Monday, November 14th to decide the championship.
