After a spirited debate on the league's Facebook page, the captains have voted to add a new rule for Gender Equity:
East Fishkill is an open league, and in the past we have made no distinction between male and female players. Effective 6/12/2014, we allow the ladies from each team to discuss gender equity prior to each game start and agree on how they would like to handle. Each team gets one vote (not per female player, but per team). In the event of disagreement, we revert to open format (no requirement for equity). After their discussion, they will inform their captains prior to game start.
Examples:
a) Both team's ladies agree they would prefer to mark women on the other team, so prior to the next pull if the ladies on defense are tired, the ladies on offense agree to sub off the field too. (Or potentially vice versa, though typically "offense dictates," meaning the team receiving the pull determines their gender makeup at the line and defense will match.)
b) Both team's ladies agree they don't care, so they can play whenever they want, matching up against men or women, without regard to equity.
c) The team's ladies disagree. In this case, would be the same as example b), ladies will not get equity, and sub in and out without regard to the lineup of the other team.
On the field this Thursday, Red defeated Green 17-7 in the early game. White beat Black 16-6. Yellow beat Gray 13-8. In the White-Black game, they used the new rule and played "offense dictates" with no issues. Yellow and Gray opted to play in open format.
