Today marked the halfway point in the Summer 2014 season, though with two rainouts we aren't quite at the halfway point for games played. Yellow defeated Black in the early game. White continued its dominating play, beating Green in the 7:15 game.
The game of the night was Gray vs Red at 8:30. Red received the pull, turned over the disc, and Gray got a break to lead 1-0. Red continued its slow start and Gray built a 5-1 lead. Following that, Red's defense picked up and they went on a 7-0 run, taking an 8-5 lead over Gray into the half. Gray received the pull to start the second and scored. The score tightened up, and the game could have gone either way. Both teams were making fast cuts, so if you didn't run hard you weren't going to make the catch. After a few layout scores by Cody and Andy, Red built a small lead and held on to win 14-11. Great game!
Looking at the standings, White looks comfortable, though they only have a two game lead over Red and Yellow. Technically Red is ahead of Yellow for second place based on point differential (+7), but at this point, the league standings could change week to week. Plus, of course, everyone makes the playoffs, so what is really important is to continue to build team chemistry, play hard, and peak at the end of the season.
