The (modest) history of E.B.C.
Like most things Kiwi, Eastern Bonsai Club came from humble beginnings.
It first started out in 2016 as just a couple of bonsai-mad people, playing around with their trees, in the quintessential home garage. They quickly realised the need for a club 'Out East', as it was a great excuse to escape from the family and spend more time working on bonsai!

Over the next year, as more people became regular visitors, it was quickly realised that larger premises were needed, and so after a little searching, the current club rooms at Highland Park were discovered (and they had a kitchenette too!!). They were spacious, warm and bright, and could fit lots of enthusiastic people in , which is the main thing.

Since the beginning, it was decided without hesitation that Eastern Bonsai Club should be a friendly club where people new to the art are nurtured and taught by more experienced members to foster knowledge and excitement, and I think it shows on the faces of all our club members. There is nothing more satisfying to a new member to create a bonsai, and have the confidence to be able to keep it alive, and watch it grow over the following months.

Eastern Bonsai Club is looking forward to what the future will bring. It can only get better as time passes and the club grows in numbers. It is proud to be furthering the Art of Bonsai in Auckland through grass-roots learning.
