1936 - 1940 ford DOOR LATCHES - wagon resources

Following Multiple requests for information please see the images below..

Your best resource for Pre 1938 hardware is this book.

These images come from this book "hardware trimming and supplies"

it exists in reproduction from several vendors. I HIGHLY suggest that everyone interested in early fords own a copy.

Unfortunately something LIKE this does NOT exist for 1938 - and later.. apparently hardware / brackets / handles in years 1938 and later were included in the body parts books of that era.. I have found this to be mostly true..

The lack of such a guide makes restoring "hardware" parts for 1938 - 1951 wagons that much more difficult, especially when accuracy is desired.

A

Above find images of the door handles specific for 1936. while its nice to have part numbers, no part numbers are present on the door handles.. as a result finding handles based on that number can be very difficult.

ALSO NOTE..

The shaft length is different from front door to rear door for cars from 1936 - 1940 and (again maybe 41) .

Ironically what this publication does not provide is a clear image / explanation of what the face of the handle should look like.

If you are seeking to identify which exterior handles are correct your best bet is to reach out to owners of similar year cars.

If your car shows up on the concourse with the wrong handles.. its likely no one will know anyhow!

note body style numbers in this image

1928 - 1936 wagon door latches.

Below detailed info on 1938 door latches.

While we do NOT have a definitive guide for later cars, these latches (with locks) are correct for wagons in 1938.

Fortunately experience has shown that this style lasted at least until 1940 and PERHAPS until 1941 in some cars..
