Our lab has sought to understand factors that make it difficult for parents to use effective practices. Our recent work has focused on parent psychopathology as an important determinant of parenting. We have examined how it relates to both parenting in general as well as how parent psychopathology may shape parents' emotion socialization practices. Our longitudinal data has allowed us to use examine how parent psychopathology and parenting can vary together over time which provide stronger evidence than cross-sectional research that these factors are intertwined.
