Our lab has been collaborating with Dr. Jennifer McDermott's Learning Lab to investigate emotion processing in 4 to 7 year old children with ADHD symptoms. We have been using Event Related Potentials (ERP) to examine how young children's brain's respond to different emotion contexts. We are currently conducting emotional and behavior assessments with children 18 months later to examine whether these early neural indicators are predictive of later emotional and behavioral functioning. We are also currently collaborating with the Learning Lab to examining preschool aged children's neural responses to emotional storybook pictures, and how these neural responses are related to child functioning and parental emotion socialization practices.
We have also been recoding data from our longitudinal study of preschool behavior problems using an emotion regulation coding system, and are in the process of examining how children's early emotion regulation is predictive of their later functioning.
