EADDLS: Evaluating Approaches to Developing Digital Literacy Skills

EADDLS (Evaluating Approaches to Developing Digital Literacy Skills) was a collaborative project between the Open University's Faculty of Health & Social Care (HSC, now the School of Health, Wellbeing and Social Care) and the OU Library. It ran from 2011 to 2014.

Its aim was to explore factors affecting learner engagement in digital literacy skills development. We aimed to identify good practice for learning design that couldbe implemented not only in HSC modules, but also shared inside and outside the OU. We were particularly interested in the extent to which learners require skills activities to be set in a subject-specific context, as opposed to a more generic approach.

The project focused on the skills materials developed for three HSC modules:

  • K113 Foundations for social work practice

  • K216 Applied social work practice

  • K217 Adult health, social care and wellbeing

The project was funded by: the OU Fund for Scholarship of and for Learning and Teaching; the HSC Faculty; and the OU Library.
