Research Interests

My research

Most of my research is releated to smoothing methods. In particular:

  • Penalized Splines

  • Multidimensional Smoothing

  • Smooth mixed models

  • Applications in Medicine, Enviromental Sciences, and Demography among others

Ph D. Students:

Carlo Giovanni Camarda: Ph D. title: "Smoothing Methods for the Analysis of Mortality development" (2008)

Dae-Jin Lee: Ph.D. title: "Smoothing Mixed Models for Spatial and Spatio-temporal data" (2010)

Diego Ayma: Ph D. title: Smooth linear mixed models for aggregated data (2016)

Alba Carballo: Ph.D. Title: Forecasting with generalized additive models (2020)

I am interested in taking on new PhD students for topics in smoothing and generalized additive modelling, and related subjects. (The Department has funding available for good students who want to do their Ph D.).
