I am Dr. Daya Shankar Kulshreshtha. I am a theoretical physicist. I work in quantum field theory, string theory, superstring theory and D-branes (instant-form and light-front quantization), general relativity and gravity theory (boson stars, boson-shells, black holes, wormholes and time travel). I have been a Professor of Physics at the Department of Physics and Astrophysics, University of Delhi, Delhi-110007 (July 1994 - December 2016) (Retired on December 31, 2016).
I was born on 5th December 1951 (Posh Krishna Dwitiya Vikram 2008) in a small scenic town - Shivpuri (MP, India), to Shrimati Ramdevi Kulshreshtha (Koson) and Shri Chhote Lal Kulshreshtha (from Udesar and Shivpuri). I obtained my early education up to bachelor's (B.Sc.) degree in Shivpuri, where I topped my college and my Uiversity (Jiwaji University). Here I studied at the Government Post Graduate College, Shivpuri, under the guidance of the distinguished teachers (like Prof. Y.G. Marathe (Physics), Prof. J. P. Gupta (Mathematics) and Prof. (R. P. Bhatnagar (Chemistry)). For my masters, I moved to Madhav Institute of Technology and Science (MITS) (then called as the Madhav Engineering College), Gwalior (under the guidance of Prof. C. B. Tipnis (- great teacher)) where I again topped the Jiwaji University, in 1971.
Soon after that I moved to the University of Delhi, as a research student under the supervision of my distinguished teacher and advisor Professor R. P. Saxena and obtained my PhD in January 1979 for my work on the quark-antiquark potential models and heavy quark physics.
In the October, 1977, I was appointed as Lecturer in Physics in the Department of Physics, Rajdhani College, University of Delhi, India. In 1980, I got an opportunity of visiting several leading Institutions of High Energy Physics in the United States and in Europe (Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden).
Later I visited Germany on a long term Post-Doctoral Position of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) at the University of Kaiserslautern (mid 1982 until end of 1984). In mid 1986, I got the Award of a National level Position of the University Grants Commission (UGC) of India: UGC-Research Scientist-(B) Position (in Reader's Pay Scale) at the Department of Physics and Astrophysics, University of Delhi, Delhi.
Since the early Eighties, I had the opportunity of collaborating with the legendary Indian physicist Prof. Ashok Nath Mitra (Ex-INSA Einstein Research Professor of Physics at the University of Delhi), on the more sophisticated Relativistic Quark Models in the Bethe-Salpeter approach.
In January 1990, I again joined the University of Kaiserslautern, Germany, (this time on a Faculty Position), for a period of five years under the leadership of the distinguished physicist: Professor Dr. Harald J. W. Mueller-Kirsten (- a celebrated author of several famous text books on theoretical Physics, including the books on: Supersymmetry, Classical Mechanics, Quantum Mechanics, Electrodynamics and Statistical Mechanics). Here I got a rather rigorous training in the Formal Aspects of quantum field theory and its complicated structures with my leader and collaborator Prof. Dr. H. J. W. Mueller-Kirsten. here, I collaborated with him on a rather wide variety of topics in quantum field theory including the constraint quantization of several field theories including the super symmetric field theories (using the Dirac's Hamiltonian formulation, BRST formulation and the Faddeev-Jackiw quantization using the first-order formalism), super symmetric quantum mechanics and the construction and quantization of gauge-invariant field theories.
In July 1994, I was appointed as a Professor of Physics at the Department of Physics and Astrophysics, University of Delhi - position from which I superannuated in December 2016. During this time,I also served as the Chair (Head) of my Department of Physics and Astrophysics, for the usual period of three years (November 2007 - November 2010). This Institution continues to be my present affiliation as a Retired Professor of Physics.
By training, I am a theoretical physicist and I like to play with the basic fundamentals of physics. I work on a varied topics in theoretical high energy physics, quantum field theory and particle physics, including the Dirac's instant-form and light-front quantization of field theories, string theories, superstring theories and D-brane actions, using the Hamiltonian, path integral and BRST formulations. I also work on the discrete light-front quantization of several field theory models in various dimensions.
The other area of my active research focuses on a study of the models of gravity in general relativity and gravity theory. This includes a study of the boson stars, boson-shells, black holes, wormholes and time travel.
I love to play with the fundamentals of physics in particular, and some of my collaborators include the leading physicists: (i) Prof. Asoke Nath Mitra (ii) Prof. Harald J. W. Mueller-Kirsten, (iii) Prof. Jutta Kunz (iv) Prof. James P. Vary (v) Prof. Stanley J. Brodsky (vi) Prof. John R. Hiller (vii) (vii) Dr. Usha Kulshreshtha (viii) Dr. Sanjeev Kumar and (ix) Mr Vivek Kumar.
