I am an Associate Professor of Molecular Biology at the National Institute of Technology, Wakayama College. I see myself as an evolutionary biologist and zoologist, trying to understand how animal diversity arose and evolves, using molecular biology, genetics, and genomics methods (i.e. molecular phylogenetics, molecular evolution, molecular embryology, and evo-devo). I work mainly on marine and aquatic metazoans (although I actually cannot swim ....), and I am starting to work with terrestrial critters too.

Being at an engineering school, I recently started to venture out and start exploring the engineering+applied aspects of my research, such as applying biodiversity genomics to environmental chemistry and civil engineering.

和歌山工業高等専門学校（和歌山高専）で分子生物学の准教授をしているものです。「自分は進化学屋で動物学屋」だと勝手に思っています。動物の多様性の由来と変遷（要するに進化）を分子系統学・分子進化学・分子発生学・進化発生学・比較ゲノム学的方法で調べています。主に海洋動物や水生後生動物を対象にしています。（泳げないけど・・・汗）工業系の高等専門学校に所属していますので、最近、生物多様性ゲノム学を環境化学や土木学に応用するような、もっと工学的や応用的な側面も研究し始めています。
