The Digital First project is set up to assist SMEs in Lancashire to take advantage of digital innovation in their business. It focuses on the on-line presence of businesses, looking at 4 themes: cyber security and data integrity, improving online performance, harnessing the power of the cloud, and digital marketing. The aim of the project is to support SMEs to grow dynamic and far reaching on-line presence.
This Research Assistant post will be based in the Computing section of the School of Physical Sciences and Computing. It is an opportunity to work with internationally renowned researchers across security, information systems and human-centred design to analyse and improve on-line profile and digital performance of small and medium businesses in Lancashire, by proposing improvements, innovations and new approaches.
The successful candidate will have some experience of working on projects in either an academic or business environment with sectors beyond academia, well-developed communication skills in both oral and written expression of detail and research skills in collecting, analysing and presenting data. The candidate will bring to the project appropriate computer science knowledge to fit the project with knowledge of cryptography and security protocols, software development, system testing and evaluation, and human-centred computing being especially appropriate areas.
The position will provide the successful applicant with a range of experience including academic publishing and industrial engagement. We are seeking an individual with interests in developing new skills and learning new technologies and their implementation. The successful applicant will also have an ability to work with clients in a professional manner, possess good team working skills and be able to work on own initiative when required. A degree or equivalent qualification/experiential learning in computing or a related area is also essential.
