Drug Courts are problem-solving courts that operate under a specialized model in which the judiciary, prosecution, defense bar,
probation, law enforcement, mental health, social service, and treatment communities work together to help non-violent offenders
find restoration in recovery and become productive citizens.
A Step in the right direction. Drug addition is NOT a crime. And those who suffer from it should not be branded as criminals and tossed in jail with actual criminals. Drug addition is a public health issue, and those who suffer from it need treatment to recover. Addiction should be treated as a disease and those suffering from this disease must be treated with respect and dignity
Recovery, not criminalization. Drug court can and should be part of the solution.
Organizations like NA, Narcotics Anonymous wonderful and extremely effective programs to help people recover. NA describes itself as a "fellowship or society of men and women for whom drugs had become a major problem" following the Twelve Steps and the Twelve Traditions developed by Alcoholics Anonymous, and it is the second-largest 12-step organization.
As of May 2010 there were more than 58,000 NA meetings in 131 countries
These programs work because individuals must want to get better.
There is no way to force recovery.
I have been to many NA meetings myself. And the unity and fellowship is overwhelming.
I am glad that there are people out there like this that want to help.
