About

I am a Senior Lecturer in the Institute of Life Course and Medical Sciences, University of Liverpool.  I am funded by a Versus Arthritis Career Development Fellowship.

My research investigates the role of neutrophils in inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis.

Rheumatoid arthritis is a type of chronic, inflammatory arthritis which affects around 1% of the UK population.  The disease progresses quickly, often leaving patients with badly damaged joints.

I am interested in the role of a type of immune cell called neutrophils in the development and progression of rheumatoid arthritis. My current research investigates the changes in the propeties of neutrophils during inflammatory disease, and whether neutrophil activation might be able to be targetted by medicines.

Versus Arthritis also support my research through a PhD scholarship.

I was awarded the Garrod Prize for 2017 by the British Society for Rheumatology.
